Mrs. Hood's Book Club: September 2010

This week we will be reading Henry and Mudge and the Best Day of All. After reading the book write about the characters, setting, problem and solution. I can't wait to talk with you about this story. Have fun reading!

Monthly News: November

Language Arts

This month we will finish the short story unit and will begin an informational unit reading social studies texts. Students will be learning about the strategies that good readers use to promote comprehension. Students should continue reading 15 minutes each night and record it on their Read Around the Clock calendar.

Math

We will be starting a new unit that will expand knowledge of number combinations and strategies to solve word problems. Students have homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They should continue to study addition fact cards. Students need to become fluent in answering addition facts to 18 (3 seconds per fact).

Social Studies and Science

We are finishing our social studies unitnext week. We will then begin our first science unit -- The Observable Sky. This will include observing the phases of the moon throughout the month.

Word Study

We will be studying words that have blends, digraphs, and endings such as -ed, -ing, -s, and -es. Be sure to use the new menu which can be found on the inside cover of the Word Study Book.
